Project Details

NameRestaurer le rôle du feu dans les parcs de l'est du Canada (Restoring the role of fire in the parks of eastern Canada)
DescriptionFire played an important role in shaping the types of vegetation and wildlife species that make up Thousand Islands National Park. Fire suppression in the park has altered its forest ecosystems, reducing forest diversity and increasing susceptibility to insects and disease, as well as wildfire due to a build-up of fire fuels. To restore a rich vegetation mosaic to the park, Parks Canada has introduced prescribed fire to the landscape.
