Description | The Cap-des-Rosiers beach restoration project at Forillon National Park aimed to restore the natural dynamics and enhance the coastal ecosystem of Cap-des-Rosiers, whose location and condition make it vulnerable to coastal erosion and climate change. The location of infrastructure in a high-risk zone and the encroachment of this infrastructure on a dynamic natural area have amplified the loss of coastal habitat in the area, the vulnerability of fish spawning sites, and threatened the ecological integrity of a wetland. This has contributed to the deterioration of a burial site and created a major infrastructure management issue. To restore the natural dynamics of the coastal ecosystem and preserve prey fish spawning sites, Parks Canada removed protective riprap, dismantled and relocated a stretch of road, and restored a 1.7 km stretch of beach. | For more information, read the final report: https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/qc/forillon/nature/conservation/cote-coastal/rapport-report |
