Chongón-Colonche Vivo 2030: landscape restoration, water security and territorial governance in the Tumbesian dry forest
Proportion of the area of the contribution comprising Key Biodiversity Areas: 7.2%
This contribution documents a territorial conservation and restoration programme in the Chongón-Colonche mountain range, in Guayas and Santa Elena provinces, Ecuador. The intervention will focus on restoring the Tumbesian dry forest, protecting priority biodiversity areas, recovering hydrological functions through nature-based solutions, strengthening community governance, and consolidating financial mechanisms to sustain conservation. Actions will include ecological restoration, landscape management, water monitoring, and capacity strengthening for local communities and territorial organisations. The contribution will be implemented in clearly defined intervention areas and will generate benefits for biodiversity, climate resilience and ecosystem service provision.

Absolute value (STAR)
1% of the total biodiversity conservation potential of Ecuador is covered by this project.
9.2% of The Americas's biodiversity conservation potential is from Ecuador.
45.4% of global biodiversity conservation potential is from The Americas.
The chart below represents the relative disaggregation of the selected contribution's total potential opportunity for reducing global species extinction risk through taking actions to abate different threats to species within its boundaries. The percentages refer to the amount of the total opportunity that could potentially be achieved through abating that particular threat.
