Zanzibar Women Leadership in Adaptation (ZanzAdapt)
Proportion of the area of the contribution comprising Key Biodiversity Areas: 10.9%
ZanzADAPT: Zanzibar Women’s Leadership in Adaptation by Community Forests International This project aims to enhance climate resilience and promote sustainable development in Zanzibar’s unique ecosystems through a nature-based approach. It does so by working closely with local communities to restore and protect mangrove forests, establish climate-smart agroforestry systems, and implement sustainable land and water management practices. The project seeks to empower farmers and community members to adopt climate-resilient agricultural techniques and improve natural resource management through capacity building and training. It also aims to strengthen climate information systems, enabling communities to make informed decisions and respond effectively to changing climate patterns. By integrating gender-responsive approaches, the project ensures the active participation and inclusion of women and marginalized groups. https://w05.international.gc.ca/projectbrowser-banqueprojets/project-projet/details/p011941001
Potential conservation benefits in saving biodiversity
Potential reduction of species extinction risk resulting from threat abatement actions
Absolute value (STAR)
2.4% of the total biodiversity conservation potential of United Republic of Tanzania is covered by this project.
10.8% of Africa's biodiversity conservation potential is from United Republic of Tanzania.
19.5% of global biodiversity conservation potential is from Africa.
The chart below represents the relative disaggregation of the selected contribution's total potential opportunity for reducing global species extinction risk through taking actions to abate different threats to species within its boundaries. The percentages refer to the amount of the total opportunity that could potentially be achieved through abating that particular threat.
